Rust on rose leaves

Diseases

Plant diseases are caused by fungi, bacteria and viruses.

Collar rot (Phytophtora cactorum)

A fungal infestation originating from the soil, especially at apple and pear trees of 8 – 10 years.

Mallow rust

Mallow rust (Puccinia malvacearum)

Rust diseases like mallow rust are fungal diseases causing the plant to die off by depriving nutrients from the plant tissue (by fungal hypha/absorbing appendix).

Pocket plum (Taphrina pruni)

Pocket plum is caused by fungi, which are infecting the plums shortly before or during blooming. The disease is induced by the fungus Taphrina pruni.

Canker (Nectaria galligena)

Canker is caused by fungi penetrating through the bark damaged by hailstorm, season cracks etc.

White Pine Blister Rust (Cronartium ribicola)

It is a fungal disease in need of two hosts (currant and pine).

Apple scab

Apple and pear scab

The scab is one of the most frequent diseases with apple (venturia inaequalis) and pear (venturia pirina), caused by fungi in no need of changing the host.

Shothole disease (Clasterosporium carpophilum)

The shothole disease is a fungus hibernating in fallen leaves or in infested fruits hanging on the tree.

Sclerotinia minor

In addition to the known grey mould the sclerotinia minor is a fungal disease giving raise to rot of green lettuce, endive, seldom of celery, carrot, tomato and cucumber.

Whiteheads disease (Phoma lingam)

Also called blackleg disease, the whiteheads disease is a fungal infection propagated by seeds and already affects the cultivation of young plants.
